In a SNOW extended Winter Season, some things stayed the same and some things changed. The MABLL crowned its champions on Saturday night with Legion of Doom beating Generals in the Senior A Championship and Bombers defeating Nailers for the Senior B title.
Doom got off to a fast 4-0 start against the Generals but the Generals fought back to make it a 2-goal game midway through the 3rd. After some sloppy play and some miscues, LoD was able to take advatage and put the game away to win two out of three for the '09-'10 season. Chris Gill led the way for Doom with 3 goals and goalie Mike Rill turned away 18 Generals shots.
In the twilight game, Bombers proved how much parity there is in the B Division by being crowned as the third different champion for the '09-'10 season. Bombers started off in a hole after 10 minutes of scoreless play but quickly answered with the tying goal. Nailers were down only 1 at the end of the second but the Bombers out-scored the Nailers 5-3 in the 3rd period. Bombers goalie Donnie West and Nailers goalie Andrew Mann played strong in net with 16 saves each. Ryan Peach led the Nailers with 3 goals and Tony Gray and Scott Prestridge led the Bombers with 3 goals a piece.
Congratulations to both teams. The MABLL now takes it's "Spring Break" so all players and officials can focus on the oudoor season. Look for Summer registration information to go live in mid-April.
Special thanks to everyone for their flexibility during this crazy SNOW-filled winter season. Thanks to our referees Rob Broxton, Scott Joyner, Dan Roberts and Tom Quigley as well as our scrorekeepers Mackenzie Joyner, Edy Fahey and Drew Rutherford.
